Depressions Help with the Thrive Programme Wolverhampton

Depression is reaching ‘epidemic’ proportions in our society. Anybody can, and many people frequently do, suffer from feeling a bit “down” following a sad event or when things just haven’t gone to plan, however, when you are suffering from Depression you are much more likely to experience the feelings of sadness for much longer, sometimes for weeks, months or even longer.

It is very difficult to be specific about the varying forms of depression which can range from ‘mild’ depression through to full blown ‘clinical depression’, but in the vast majority of cases by taking positive action and seeking out help for the problem, most people can make a full and lasting recovery.

Different ‘events’ and ‘situations’ can cause some people to become depressed, whilst others seem to ‘shake it off’ which leads to the conclusion that people who succumb to depression may have certain limiting beliefs which make them more ‘prone’ to deal with adversity by becoming depressed.

IF YOU THINK YOU ARE SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION THEN IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR TO DISCUSS THE MATTER WITH THEM PRIOR TO CONSULTING WITH ME.

Symptoms of Depression

If you experience some of these symptoms for most of the day, every day for more than a couple of weeks then you may be suffering for depression.

  • A continuous low mood or sadness
  • Feeling hopeless or helpless
  • Low self-esteem
  • Tearfulness
  • Irritability & Intolerance
  • Lack of motivation
  • Difficulty making a decision

Once again, please consult your GP about this before making an appointment with me.

Self Administered Depression Test

If you would like to find out how you ‘score’ on the Major Depression Inventory (MDI) test used by many medical practitioners, then you can visit the on-line test here:

psychology-tools.com/major-depression-inventory

The Major Depression Inventory (MDI) is a self-report mood questionnaire developed by the World Health Organization’s Collaborating Centre in Mental Health.

It should only be used as a ‘guide’ and not as a definitive diagnosis as only your GP is appropriately qualified to do so, however, it can be useful in helping you decide if you should seek medical help.

How We Can Help with Depression

When people suffer from depression they can often feel as if there is no point to trying to improve things, in particular because they believe that they they do not have the ‘power’ to change.

This idea of not being able to influence your life because external events have determined where your life is today is addressed in the Thrive Programme as one of the core limiting beliefs, ie. our sense of ‘power’ to determine the path of our lives.

This is expressed as either (a) ‘life is what’s happening to me’ or (b) ‘life is what I make it’.

Those people who feel ‘powerless’ because they believe that external factors determine the path of their lives have what is known as an external locus of control which is expressed in (a) above. However, this is only a ‘belief’ and is not factually true.

By learning how to change this particular ‘belief system’ a person can learn how to develop a greater sense of influence over the course of their lives, and to manage un-helpful thinking much more effectively.

These processes can help a person to eliminate depression altogether.

The Thrive Programme for Depression

The Thrive Programme is unsurpassed at helping people with ‘problems’ identify and then change their limiting belief systems.

This multi-session course utilises the very latest findings in cognitive psychology and neuroscience research to help a person to understand how a limiting belief may be formed in the first place, through either ‘learned social behaviours’ or by the accumulation of ‘evidence’ based experiences that provide the robust foundations of those belief systems.

Remarkably, it turns out that what we consider to be the ‘truth’ about the ‘way the world works’ amounts to nothing more than what we ‘believe’ to be true rather than what actually is!

The Thrive Programme for Depression will help you to gain a greater level of understanding behind the limiting beliefs that may be inadvertently making the problem worse, and teaches you a range of tools, techniques and coping mechanisms to help you get back on with your life.
